Description:
The Ohio State Board of Education added a literacy specialist endorsement to its teacher licensure program, making it clear they view literacy specialists as professionals requiring adequate credentials and training. The standards for credentials used by the Ohio State Board of Education came from many of the recommendations for credentials made by the IRA. There is a strong link between professional development and improved teaching. Modeling and coaching make more of an impact on teaching than a one-day workshop. Part of the standards for Ohio include a research-based agenda, including understanding the methodologies used and engaging in inquiry in the classroom.
