Bean, R. (2004). The reading specialist: Leadership for the classroom, school, and community. NY: Guildford Press.

Author: Bean, R.

In this book Bean bridges the gap between reading specialists and the newer concept of literacy coaches. She realizes that many reading specialists may be tapped to become reading coaches, and that some reading specialists will fill dual roles as a specialist and coach. There are overlaps in the two roles in the areas of assessment, professional development, school vision for literacy, and grant writing. One chapter is specifically devoted to in-classroom literacy coaching. Bean provides ideas for organizing coaching notes if notes are taken at five minute intervals and use of a chart of literacy-related classroom observables.
